The Block vs. Los Angeles

                      
           Amanda Morgan, 22, lives in Sydney, Australia. Amanda was born and grew up in the city of Sydney on a street that's known as "The Block". Many families were moved to the block by the Australian government, mainly because they wanted their land. Amanda also talks about how the block was once a place where celebrities loved to visit. According to Amanda, "A lot of celebrities visited here, Prince William, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michael Jackson". A few years later, the block began to take a tragic turn. Their were many kids and toddlers in the community. Everyone in the community called Amanda's great aunt, "Auntie Joyce". Joyce later passed away in early 2012. Amanda also talks about how she later moved from the block and how she was happy and relieved to have leave that place. Overall, the block became a block full of poverty,it wasn't always the best place to live, but it created some unforgettable memories and life learning experiences. According to lachamber.com,"Poverty adversely affects the lives of Los Angeles residents as well as the City as a whole. Among other things, poverty has a direct financial impact on local government because of above-average per capita costs for municipal services related to police and fire protection, courts, education, and other services in poor neighborhoods".
