Corporation Media vs. Democracy Journalism




                   Corporation media is a system of mass media production, distribution, ownership, and funding. Corporations media is very similar to main steam media, which is a media system that does not serve the public interest. Democracy of journalism is a phenomenon where story readers rank news stories. Democratic journalism promotes news based on popular opinions of the majority. There are many similarities, and many differences. In corporation media, small cable channels, are owned, funded, and controlled by an interconnected network of large corporate conglomerates and international banking interests, which may manipulate and filter out news that does not fit their corporate agenda. According to http://www.newsmediacorporation.com/,"From our town to yours, News Media Corporation has been delivering community newspapers since 1975. With 10 printing plants and 34 newspaper offices in nine different states, our publications have been the leading news source for readers and advertisers all across America". Corporate media consist of newspapers, magazines, etc. Now democracy journalism is a little different. For example, Oscar Wilde, once stated, " By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, journalism keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community ".  This quote by Oscar Wilde represents how media keeps people in contact with pretty much everyone. My overall opinion of the two is that these two help publish and promote information about people to keep in contact with them. Without media, there would be no way to really keep in contact with people and or to meet new people.

                                      Change in Massachusetts 

         

          Same sex marriage has been an on going debate in USA for many years. Partners, David Wilson and Rob Compton, were prosecutors in a case that awarded the state of Massachusetts equality to same sex couples. Ten years earlier, David was falsely accused for assault and battery and breaking and entering. After this took place, David joined a support group. And that's where he meet his now life partner, Rob. 3 years after they met, they had a commitment ceremony. Many attending guest thought the ceremony was a wedding. At the time, same sex marriage was illegal in the state of Massachusetts, so therefore Rob and David were unable to get married. That's where the lawsuit against the state came about. One of the most difficult parts about coming out as a gay black man. David wasn't exactly sure how to approach his dad about fighting for his rights to get married to a man. His dad stated ,"Your doing the right thing". David's dad feels that his son is doing the right thing in taking on a role of changing a huge U.S issue. A couple years later on May 17th 2004, David and Rob got married in a city hall in Massachusetts. That day was the best day of David's life mainly because he made his dad very happy. He got to ride in a limo for the first time in his life. In the article, David says, "It was a great day". Recently, I've came across a story about a gay couple, Jonathan and Dwayne. They got married early march of this year, in Pensacola, Florida. Like David and Rob, Jonathan and Dwayne had their true testament to be together for the rest of their lives.
